Key Responsibilities

The Industrial Development Corporation is inviting students to apply for the IDC External Bursary Program, for the 2025 academic year from the 1st of June 2024 and the closing date for the applications is the 30th of September 2024.

The IDC Bursary is open to unemployed eligible South African citizens with financial needs and excellent academic performance. Applicants should be studying or intend to study full-time towards any of the fields of study listed below

Bursaries are available for the following fields of study: Commerce & management studies, Engineering, Law studies and Applied commercial science.

  • The IDC Bursary will be granted to applicants studying towards their first qualification and undergraduate studies only. No second qualification & post-graduate qualification will be funded.
  • Funding for postgraduate qualification will only be granted to applicants who are studying: Finance, Accounting and Law.
  • South African citizens, who are not older than 26 years.
  • Applicants who are studying or matriculated at Quintile 1,2 & 3 schools (rural schools), and schools from previously disadvantaged communities will be given first preference.
  • The IDC Bursary Program is for applicants whose parents earn a combined household income of up to
    R600 000,00 p/a. An affordability assessment will be carried out as part of the selection criteria.
  • A weighting system, with due consideration of the following aspects, will be applicable:
    • Applicants living with disability will be given first preference.
    • Matriculants with a minimum of 75% Admission Point Score (APS)
    • Applicants at a tertiary level with a minimum of 65% APS (on application submit most recent academic results/transcript).
    • Applicants must be admitted to study at a South African Public University, the University of Technology and TVET College.

Requirements

  • South African recentlcertified copy of Identity Document (not older than 6 months from the date of application)
  • 2024 mid-year (first semester) results or latest results if not studying this year (gap year applicants).
  • A recently certified copy of Grade 11 results or current year’s grade 12 June results, recently certified copy of matric results
  • A provisional acceptance letter/admission letter from the institution
  • Recently certified copies of both parent(s) identity document (not older than 6 months).
  • If the surname of the applicant & the parent(s) is different: student should provide a recently certified copy of the unabridged birth certificate.
  • Required documents to verify parents or guardians’ household income:
    • Recently certified copy of latest pay slip if employed
    • Recently certified copy of 3 Months Bank Statements reflecting income if employed or self-employed
    • Affidavit if unemployed stating annual
    • Recently certified copy of 6 Months Bank Statements if un-employed
    • Recently certified copy of SASSA letter stating the grants received if applicable
    • Recently certified copy of Parent(s) death certificates if parent(s) are deceased
    • Recently certified copy of divorce certificate if parents are divorced OR sworn statement from the one parent if parents are separated.

Bursary Benefits

  • The IDC bursary will provide cover for the following expenses:
    • Full tuition fees,
    • Full Fees for on-campus accommodation and meals (institution rates will apply)
    • Capped amount for off-campus university accredited accommodation
    • Capped amount for Self-Catering Meal allowance
    • Capped amount for Transport allowance
    • Laptop (once-off)
