About The University of Johannesburg (UJ)

Vibrant, multicultural and dynamic, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) shares the pace and energy of cosmopolitan Johannesburg, the city whose name it carries. Proudly South African, the university is alive down to its African roots, and well-prepared for its role in actualising the potential that higher education holds for the continent’s development. UJ has transformed into a diverse, inclusive, transformational and collegial institution, with a student population of over 50 000, of which more than 3000 are international students from 80 countries. This makes UJ one of the largest contact universities in South Africa (SA) from the 26 public universities that make up the higher education system.

Key Responsibilities

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a vibrant and cosmopolitan university, anchored in Africa and driven by a powerful strategy focused on attaining global excellence and stature (GES). With an emphasis on independent thinking, sustainable development, and strategic partnerships, UJ is an international university of choice. The University is guided by the Vice-Chancellor’s vision of “Positioning UJ in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) for societal impact in the context of the changing social, political, and economic fortunes of Africa”.

The UJ Academic Development Centre (ADC) strives to provide theoretically based, and practical interventions and developmental opportunities to both Academic staff and students. ADC consists of Access Programmes and Academic Development and Innovation. All student related services are equally but proportionally represented on all four UJ campuses and the ADC staff strive to provide integrated, relevant and up-to-date growth opportunities. ADC: Access offers extended curriculum programmes on behalf of the College of Business and Economics and the Humanities and Engineering and the Built Environment Faculties. A significant focus of the ADC: Access wing is laying a strong knowledge and skills foundation for higher education through the offering of foundational provision modules to extended students.
