About The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC)

The SAMRC was established in 1969 and is dedicated to improving the health of people in South Africa, through research, innovation, development, and technology transfer. The scope of research includes laboratory investigations, clinical research, and public health studies.

SAMRC conducts research on South Africa’s quadruple burden of disease: maternal, newborn and child health, HIV/AIDS and TB, non-communicable diseases, and interpersonal violence. SAMRC work is to acquire evidence-based information to inform health policy and practice and improve the quality and health status of people in South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) strives to improve the nation’s health and quality of life by funding and conducting relevant and leading health research. It further aims to promote equity, career development and progression.

FACILITIES CLEANER – 2 Posts. Duration: 3 Year Contract

The Gender and Health Research Unit is seeking to appoint Facilities Cleaner in the Limpopo – Modimolle – Waterberg Research Site and Western Cape – Stellenbosch: The ARC Research Site.

Responsibilities:

1) Cleaning of offices, common areas (ablution facilities and kitchen) and meeting rooms:

  • Cleaning of office, common areas and meeting room in the morning before staff enters their office space.

2) Making refreshments for participants and keeping the kitchen clean:

  • Preparing tea and coffee as needed
  • Preparing and helping to serve sandwiches or hot meals for participants, morning and afternoon as needed
  • Washing up utensils

Requirements

Core Requirements:

  • Grade 8 or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years cleaning experience
  • Understanding and correct use of Cleaning Supplies and Chemicals

Added Advantages:

  • Previous cleaning experience in office environment
  • Experience with Cleaning in an environment with Women with Trauma exposure.

Personal Attributes:

  • Interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate (read and write)
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to speak English.
