Key Responsibilities

Supervise both internal and contract security personnel. Oversee and Manage access control. Develop, implement, and manage safety and security measures. Be pro-active in managing and minimizing risk. Retrieve reports of previous shifts, analyse, and take the reports to the Security Manager. Check and sign daily occurrence book, report to superiors. Check attendance register; post personnel to relevant duty posts. Verify wearing prescribed uniforms and address those who fail to comply. Do walk-about inspections. Patients who regularly abscond from hospital are diligently followed up and brought back to hospital. Burglaries to personnel and institution and members of public reported to SAPS; render necessary personal assistance. Attend effectively to conflict situations. Assist nursing personnel with aggressive patients successfully. Report losses to the Loss Control Officer. Counsel subordinates who fail to observe the code of conduct or absent themselves without leave approved. Ensure that all policies and procedures relating to Safety and Security is updated regularly, communicated to employees, and adhered to. Ensure that windows, doors, locks, security gates, etc. are maintained and always in good working order. Escort visitors / contractors. Maintain security measures. Perform any other duties delegated by the supervisor. Perform T.R.A (Threat and Risk Assessment) within the institution.

Requirements

Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification; Security Grade A / B; 3-5-years’ experience in the security and safety field. Current registration with PSIRa. Computer literacy (Ms work, Excel, PowerPoint, Email). Knowledge of CCTV surveillance cameras, Access control system and control room. Ability to work under pressure. Conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Report writing skills. A knowledge of legislation applicable to security industry, e.g., Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act, No. 53 of 1985, MISS and Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 and etc. Knowledge of Firearm Control. Sound knowledge of Labour Relations processes. PMDS, Knowledge of Health and Safety and Fire Prevention. Willingness to work shifts and extended hours. Candidates will be subjected to a medical surveillance.
